Crave (2014)

bass flute, harp

written for Stacey Pelinka & Meredith Clark

commissioned by the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble

Crave explores the fundamental relationship between physical gesture and sound energy, pushing the players to convey both the sensitivity and the brutality of virtuosity, which is culled from and carved into a performer’s body. In other words, Crave exploits the performers’ physical virtuosity as well as their voices to show how the visceral immediacy of physical gesture can create music that is sensual and erotic.

Crave was written for flutist Stacey Pelinka and harpist Meredith Clark and commissioned by the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble. The duo gave the premiere performances of the piece in Mill Valley, San Francisco, and Berkeley in December 2014.
