Crave

for bass flute & harp
Premiere: Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, December 2014 (9 minutes)

This piece, written for flutist Stacey Pelinka and harpist Meredith Clark, focuses on the fundamental relationship between physical gesture and sound energy, pushing the players to convey both the sensitivity and the brutality of virtuosity, which is at its core, biological. Crave seeks to underline, through this physical virtuosity and the use of text and voice, emerging strands in my music: the links between performative intensity, visceral sound production, and a music that is sensual and erotic.

I am extremely grateful for Stacey and Meredith’s enthusiasm and dedication towards the composition, rehearsal, and premiere of the piece.
